19 of the Russian's 21 titles have been achieved on hard courts

A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his initial trophy for 882 days with a win over Corentin Moutet in the competition championship match.

Medvedev, a former world number one, has had a torrid season, winning just one win at the big events and undergoing a meltdown at the American major.

The player's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serve in particular - led to him dropping out of the world's top 10 and finally separating with long-time trainer his previous coach.

Now collaborating with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, he has gradually advanced in the last few weeks - culminating in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents his maiden trophy following the Italian tournament and first on a hard court from spring of 2023.

Victory also signifies he has won 21 victories at 21 distinct tournaments.

"For the first time I'm at a event with my two daughters together, so to secure a trophy is especially meaningful," said world number 14 the champion.

"This victory is in dedication of my child her name, because the first title I got when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had been defeated in his past six title deciders, featuring in Halle in the past months.

The player's retrieving strategy and frequent emotional displays on the tennis court had caused commentators to question if his capacity to compete at the highest level was finished.

Yet the athlete has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, making an effort to approach the net and perform positively, backed up by an better serve.

The champion recovered from a break down in the first set against the challenging Frenchman, taking four of the concluding five points to take the lead.

Both players traded breaks in the middle set before the challenger, bidding for his first tour championship, seized the initiative to push for a decider.

He defended 4 initial chances in a tight final set before the champion secured a break to fifteen to secure the win.

Suitably, the winner secured victory with a shot at the front of the court, with his opponent unable to manage a volley after over two and a half hours.
